Hi Nyrene! Thanks so much for your kind words. As for a favorite paint, it depends on what I'm painting. For cabinets, my go-to paint is Benjamin Moore's Advance paint – I have never been disappointed with it. The only caution with it is that it takes some time to fully cure, so you have to be a bit careful during the curing period (about a month). Advance is a water-based paint that hardens like an oil-based paint – the best of both worlds, without the messy cleanup.

For furniture, I love General Finishes paint, Velvet Finishes paint, and I'm starting to work with Amy Howard's line of paints. It just depends on the project and the look that you want when it's complete. Not a lot of experience with lacquer here, but I'm always on the lookout for new products and techniques. Hope this helps!

Your home, blog, everything is just gorgeous. And you describe everything so well in your blog posts. I know you like to have the paint store do a custom color mix for you, but do you have a favorite paint brand to use? Do you like water based or lacquer? Every painter seems to have their favorite. The two painters that I like the most said lacquer – one said by Benjamin Moore and the other said Sherwin Williams. Another painter said no lacquer bc it could crack in the future. Any thoughts on what you like the best? Thank you!! Nyrene

I just finished "The Nightingale" and I think I loved it even more than "Secrets of a Charmed Life"! It was SO good – so well written, so heartbreaking, but such a testament to the power of the human spirit. If you like Secrets of a Charmed Life, you'll love The Nightingale!

I alsways look forward to good book suggestions!

Have you tired of that lovely runner from Ballard's Outlet in the board and batten hallway? I would consider purchasing it from you.

Your home is lovely. I found you as I searched for board & batten tutorials. Yours is great. Perhaps it is my computer, but in each picture of your hallway the paint looks like a different color. Sometimes it is a green shade & other times it is a light caramel. What color is it? Thank you.

Late response here, sorry – but yes, it should work! Just make sure you put masking tape over the light socket. 🙂

I actually bought a goodwill lamp today for 5$ and its really nice. I wanted to paint it so I got son American Scent spray paint . I wondered though if its safe to paint the lamp with it. ? Like will the lamp spontaneously combust or something? Its not heat spray paint. Will it be okay you think?
