How to Paint Your Kitchen Cabinets – Supply List
Taking Down Your Cabinet Doors
- Painters tape – I prefer Scotch Blue Tape with Edge lock or Frog Tape
- Power screwdriver/drill
- Sharpie Marker
- Ziploc Baggies
- Ratcheting Screwdriver (Optional, but a necessityif you have hard to reach areas, like false fronts that are screwed in to the cabinet frame)
Prepping Your Cabinet Doors
- Krud Kutter Gloss-Off
- Spray bottle
- Clean, lint-free rags
- Putty knife
- Orbital Sander (if you don’t have an orbital sander, you can hand sand your doors with a sanding block)
- Sanding discs
- Sanding block
- Wood filler (if you’re filling cabinet hardware holes)
Priming and Painting Your Cabinet Doors and Frames
- BIN Shellac Primer
- Tack Cloth
- Sanding Block, 220 grit
- Paint Sprayer Options:
- HomeRight Finish Max Paint Sprayer
- Wagner Control Spray Paint Sprayer
- Wagner HVLP Conversion Gun (to be used with an air compressor – this is the one I used when I first painted my kitchen cabinets)
- Denatured Alcohol (for clean-up)
- Painter’s Pyramids
- Respirator Mask
- PPG Breakthrough paint in a satin finish or Benjamin Moore Advance paint in a satin finish (tinted to your color of choice)
- Drop cloths
- Painter’s Tape
If you’re planning on spraying your cabinet frames, I recommend the following:
- Floor protection paper
- Masking Paperand Hand Masker Dispenser
- Masking film
- ZipWall (great for tarping off your kitchen if you’re spraying your frames)
- 3 Mil or higher plastic sheeting for use with the Zipwall
- Masking Tape
- Paint Shield
