Hello!
I’m still battling sinus junk, but trucking through the week nonetheless. I have kitchens to paint! The kids have been off for Spring Break, and we’ve had some pretty great weather, so I can’t complain (although seeing everyone’s vacations on my Facebook feed is getting a bit depressing). So, let’s get on with this week’s edition of the Friday 5+1! This post contains some affiliate links.
Some Color in the Kitchen
While I love transforming a dated oak kitchen into a crisp, white one, I’m really excited about one of my current client kitchens. They have oak cabinets, and recently added new granite countertops. Instead of going with a white, or even a cream color, we’re going with Revere Pewter, and I can’t wait to see how it looks once it’s complete. I’ve been painting the frames this week, and it’s already looking lovely.
Here’s a peek of it on the peninsula – and yes, I hand painted them. 🙂
Since we’re talking about painting, and how smooth and pretty that finish turned out, I have to share my latest mohair roller discovery (which I used in this kitchen). Wooster’s Mohair Rollers –
These feel like they’re a little more plush than the others that I’ve used, and they’re smaller in length as well. They’re just the right size for working on cabinet frames. Best of all, the finish is spectacular!
Smart Squeeze Bottles for Paint
This is turning into a paint-packed post, but I spotted these squeeze bottles on one of the painting groups I read, and I think I need them in my life. I’m always dealing with leftover paint, and having partially filled paint cans everywhere isn’t a viable option.
These squeeze bottles are perfect – especially if you’re working with smaller amounts of paint, or you’re mixing them (like I did on this console table that I shared earlier this week). They’re just plain handy!
Spring Surprises
I was finally able to mow the lawn this week, and was thrilled to discover my tulips in full bloom. I can’t remember them looking so beautiful – not since the first spring after we moved into the house. Such a happy little flower. Pay no mind to the ugly utility boxes – I was just happy to see the flowers. 🙂
Matinees with my Kids
Like I said, the kids are on spring break this week, and we went to the movies this afternoon, seeing “Zootopia”. So cute, and so nice to do something with all of them together, especially since my oldest is wrapping up his junior year in high school. I’m still in denial that he’s going to graduate next year and go to college.
My +1 for the week – how about feeling like crud over spring break? That’s no fun. But I guess being sick while on vacation at the beach wouldn’t be much fun either, so it’s a good thing we didn’t go anywhere, right? 😉
Have a great weekend!
Jenny

April 1, 2016 at 8:42 amI highly recommend Ziploc Twist n Loc containers for leftover paint. They come in several sizes and keep the paint fresh. And you can buy them locally with coupons!

April 1, 2016 at 12:14 pmI am loving the gray kitchen in Revere Pewter! I am completely in love with gray and have been for a couple years. Looking forward to seeing the finished project.
I woke up this morning covered in paint and jumped right back into the paint can as I am continuing my DIY staircase makeover which now includes surrounding doorways and railings. I am painting the treads and railings Sherwin Williams ‘Peppercorn’, a darker gray that I am loving. I am using Valspar ‘Still Life in Gray’ for the risers and then white on the balusters and doorways. Soooo much prep work and finally ready to put some color on today! I would like to share before and after pictures with you for your opinion, if you don’t mind. I talk to my husband about this stuff but he does not share my enthusiasm for paint!
Have a great day!
