Friday 5+1 (5 Things I Love + 1 Thing I Don’t) – 6.29.18

I’ve been busting my hump every which way lately, trying to keep lots of plates spinning, but at the same time, I don’t want the summer to slip by too quickly (which it feels like it is).  With July 4th next week, that always sounds an alarm in my mind that summer is almost over, and I just want it to all slow down a bit.  And what’s with July 4th on a Wednesday?  I don’t even know how people are planning on celebrating with a major holiday mid-week.  Let’s just make the whole week a holiday, shall we?  This post contains some affiliate links.

Hendel Homes

While I was looking for photos for my Favorite Benjamin Moore Paint Colors post, I stumbled upon Hendel Homes.  Oh my goodness.  So many beautiful homes!  I could see myself moving right into this lakeside cottage.  The color palette of beautiful blues is right up my alley.

Kanna Sandals

My sister-in-law had a pair of Kanna sandals on at my niece’s graduation party, and they caught my eye because they’re super cute and according to my sister-in-law, they’re comfortable as well.  I’m all for stylish and comfortable when it comes to shoes, so these fit the bill.

Cute and Clever Serving Dishes

While I don’t need new serving dishes, I certainly would turn down this “In Queso Emergency” dish if it happened to land in my kitchen.  Notice the spoon – “Jalepeno Business”.  Love it!

Wine Stopper String Lights

These are another one of those “Duh, why didn’t I think of that?” ideas.  How cute for an outdoor summer party – string lights attached to a wine stopper.  Save your old wine bottles and voila – cute outdoor lighting!

My Pro Drying Rack

Since I started leasing a workshop space for painting, I’ve been able to take on more work, since I have the space to accommodate it.  One point of pain has been when I get cabinets in to the shop, and they need to be cleaned and sanded – there just hasn’t been a good place to put all of the doors to make them easily accessible.  Enter Pro Drying Rack.  The fine people ThePaintline.com were kind enough to send me this fantastic piece of equipment, and it’s a game changer.   This rack is fabulous for drying cabinets, and has been a huge time saver for me when I’m spraying.  Since it has wheels, I can roll them right over to my spray area and work right from there.  The bonus is that it’s been awesome for managing doors when I bring them into my shop as well.  I roll it up to the back of my SUV, and load all of the doors right on it and then roll it over to my prep space.  Like I said, game changer!

And can I tell you how great it is to have summer helpers?  I pay them and supply them with Starbucks and get the award as being an awesome boss. 🙂

My +1 for the week – College Frat House in my Basement

As many of you know, my oldest is home from college, and while I love him dearly, his hygiene leaves much to be desired.  I’m fairly certain that he was Oscar the Grouch in a previous life, because I think his room is the equivalent of a trash can. When when I tell him a million times to clean up his room and the basement, there is still loads of crap everywhere, and I think his eyes don’t see it.  Is this a college boy affliction?  So, while I will be a little bit sad to see him go back to school, I look forward to reclaiming the space as a non-garbage-can zone.

Needless to say, my cute Zen Den has turned into a crash pad for his buddies.  And while I’m happy to have them hang out here, I just wish they had some of the cleaning tendencies of my daughter.  And her room always smells good too. 🙂

Have a great weekend!

Jenny

My oldest recently graduated college and is living at home, and the college age twins are home working summer jobs. Everyone is on a different schedule. “Stuff” everywhere and the kitchen never stays clean for even five minutes. Sigh. But it is good to have the life and laughter in the house again!

I’m trying to focus on the positive and not dwell on the negative. It’s hard sometimes when I go downstairs to his “basement dorm/frat house space”. But, I also love that our house is such a gathering spot for him and his friends. Although I’m sure our neighbors tire of all of the cars parked along the street…

I have two comments for you this week! #1….my freshman son is home from college too and his room is a disaster. I agree with you….I don’t think their eyes see all of the disgusting gatorade bottles and chip bags all over the floor. UGH! I am just doing good to get him to shower and brush his teeth.

#2. I love the Pro Rack. My husband builds cabinets, so I am interested in the rack. Do you paint the doors while they are laying on the rack? Or do you remove each door, spray it and then put it back up on the rack. Let it dry and then do the other side?

I’m so glad to hear that I’m not alone in the college son department. I can deal with the mess if 1) I don’t have to see it and 2) it’s not in my house! 😉

As for the Pro Rack, I roll the rack up to my spray area and can spray them on my spray table and then put them back on the rack. Marvelous!!
