I feel all out of whack this week with the July 4th holiday falling on a Tuesday this year. I keep thinking today is Wednesday, but here it is, Friday already. Time for another Friday 5+1! This post contains some affiliate links.
Awesomely Gorgeous Furniture
Ok, so perhaps I’m exaggerating a bit, but I found a stunning piece through a local buy/sell group, and I may just have to keep it for myself. It’s just that pretty. But, judge for yourself.
Did you catch that quatrefoil detail? Here’s a close up in case you missed it. Oh yeah. It’s seen some wear, but it’s rock solid and is going to be a stunner by the time I’m finished with it.
Sarah’s Bathroom Makeover
Have you seen the gorgeous bathroom makeover from Sarah at Thrifty Decor Chick? A winner, as always. I’m totally digging that wall tile! So fresh and beautiful! The whole space is just completely transformed.
This Has Helped Me Quit Diet Coke
So, I have a bit of a Diet Coke problem. I usually drink it daily, and I know it’s not good for me. I’ve been wanting to get a Yeti tumbler for awhile now, as we have vacation coming up, and I think it will be awesome for keeping a drink cold on the beach (without getting drippy and then getting sand stuck to it). So, I a coupon and I splurged on this one, and I haven’t drank Diet Coke since (which was over the weekend). I love that I can load it up with water, ice and lemon, and it stays cold forever. Well, not forever, but for a long time. So often, I tote around water bottles with the best of intentions, only to end up with warm water bottles in my car, in the house, etc… Problem solved. And, I’m drinking a lot more water as a result. The only downside: everyone in my family wants one now. But how cute is this color?
Beneath a Scarlet Sky: A Novel
I just wrapped up Beneath a Scarlet Sky this week, and it’s one of those WWII stories that really sticks with you, and one that you’re glad someone discovered, and took the time to research it and write about it. It’s based on a true story, which makes it even better. The story of Pino Lella is one that you will remember, and I continue to be amazed and impressed by the grit and sacrifice of this generation.
An Amazon excerpt:
Based on the true story of a forgotten hero, USA Today bestseller Beneath a Scarlet Sky is the triumphant, epic tale of one young man’s incredible courage and resilience during one of history’s darkest hours.
Pino Lella wants nothing to do with the war or the Nazis. He’s a normal Italian teenager—obsessed with music, food, and girls—but his days of innocence are numbered. When his family home in Milan is destroyed by Allied bombs, Pino joins an underground railroad helping Jews escape over the Alps, and falls for Anna, a beautiful widow six years his senior.
In an attempt to protect him, Pino’s parents force him to enlist as a German soldier—a move they think will keep him out of combat. But after Pino is injured, he is recruited at the tender age of eighteen to become the personal driver for Adolf Hitler’s left hand in Italy, General Hans Leyers, one of the Third Reich’s most mysterious and powerful commanders.
Now, with the opportunity to spy for the Allies inside the German High Command, Pino endures the horrors of the war and the Nazi occupation by fighting in secret, his courage bolstered by his love for Anna and for the life he dreams they will one day share.
Fans of All the Light We Cannot See, The Nightingale, and Unbroken will enjoy this riveting saga of history, suspense, and love.
A Cool USB Charging Lamp
What a hip and cool lamp that doubles as a charger. I could see this in a college kid’s dorm room, an office, or even on my kitchen counter. And the monogram is a cool personal touch too.
My +1 for the week: White Skinny Jeans (on me)
I went shopping last week, and have to say that I’m eagerly awaiting the return of trouser jeans. Don’t get me wrong, I love the idea of white skinny jeans, especially when I see pictures like this one. Adorable, I think to myself. And then I try them on. Skinny jeans (especially white ones) just don’t work for those of us not blessed with skinny legs to put in them. Enough said.
Skinny jeans (white, black or any color for that matter) just don’t work for those of us not blessed with skinny legs to put in them. Enough said. I’ll wait around for the white trouser pants thankyouverymuch.
Have a great weekend!

July 7, 2017 at 10:29 amThat dresser is gorgeous! What great detail. I will have to add that book to the list we keep for our book club. We all loved Unbroken and All The Light We Cannot See. And, I am right there with ya on the white skinny jeans. Would love a pair, but have yet to find one that fits in all the right areas.

July 7, 2017 at 1:31 pmI have Beneath a Scarlet Sky on my list right now – I loved Lilac Girls based on your recommendation as well! As for white jeans, I felt the same, but finally found a pair at Gap in their “girlfriend” cut. They are thick enough for me, and a slightly wider leg/hip than true skinnys – kind of like a boyfriend jean, but not as baggy. I must’ve tried on 30 pairs before finding these!

July 7, 2017 at 6:27 pmSo you’re telling me there is still hope in the white jeans department? I swear, when I find jeans that I like, I should buy a bunch of them, because it’s such a daunting task!

July 7, 2017 at 6:12 pmYou always have great book recommendations. I’ve added this one to my list of books I want to read. I just finished “The Women of the Castle” which is about WWII in Germany, told by civilians. I think you would like it.
Have you considered making a “Books” tab on your site?
Jenny
July 7, 2017 at 11:19 pmI think I will add a “Books” tab – that’s a great idea! Especially now that I’m reading/listening to so many lately. I will add “The Women of the Castle” to my list – I just can’t get enough of WWII books. Such a fascinating era.

July 7, 2017 at 7:57 pmA little tip on the Yeti cup–Walmart has a great one by Ozark Trail for 6.95 here in St. Louis, that I am in love with. It’s a double-wall, vacuum type, just like the Yeti, and keeps my ice and water ridiculously cold all day. I’m sold. And much more affordable for the rest of the family.

July 8, 2017 at 10:09 amI agree. We bought a different brand at Costco. They came in a two pack for 15.00. My sons all own Yeti cups like yours so we decided to do a challenge. We added the same amount of water and ice to the cups. The next day the Costco brand had the same amount of ice as the expensive Yeti cup.

July 8, 2017 at 2:38 pmAs a side note- the “fake” Yeti at Walmart works just as good, at half the cost!
