Friday 5+1 (5 Things I Love + 1 Thing I Don’t) – 9.21.18

Thanks so much for your kind words and prayers for my brother-in-law and his family from my post last week .  His funeral services were beautiful, and the outpouring of support has been touching and uplifting. It’s been a tough couple of weeks, to say the least, and we’re trying to get back into a routine again, which does seem to help a little bit.  Staying busy, exercising, working in the yard, taking quiet time when you need to – it all seems to help.

God Nuggets Part 2

You might remember me talking about the idea of seeing “God nuggets” throughout this whole ordeal, and other times of loss in my life.  Again, I’ve mentioned how rainbows hold a special significance for me when it comes to loss, and how they’ve shown up at times that are just too timely to be coincidence.  Does that make sense?  Case in point in this situation – we came home from the funeral and were greeted with this little rainbow sliver right over our house.  This picture doesn’t do it justice, but suffice to say, it took my breath away when I saw it.

An Appropriate Glass

While I enjoy a glass of wine or a vodka tonic, suffice to say, right or wrong, wine has also been part of my coping process in this whole mess (don’t judge).  So you can see why I would appreciate this glass and get a little chuckle out of it.

Ankle Boots for Fall

Even though it’s still been hot here, there is cooler weather on the horizon, so I’m eyeing some fall footwear that I’d like to get this season.  One look I’ve loved is ankle boots, and I’m really loving the look of wedge ankle boots.

Maybe something like these cute brown suede Skechers ankle boots.

Women's Ankle Boots

Or maybe these cute TOMS wedge boots?

Do you have any favorites?  Since skinny jeans don’t seem to be going out of style anytime soon (much to my thick-thighed dismay), I might as well hop on a trend that I actually like, right?

Patagonia Waterproof Parka

When we were in California this summer, my son dragged us in to a Patagonia store, where I discovered this waterproof parka (in navy blue, my fave).  I’m not one to spend frivolously, but like furniture, I’m willing to invest in certain pieces that I know I’ll have for a long time.  I have a Merrell jacket that I’ve worn for more years than I can count, and I think this jacket will follow suit.  I love that it’s waterproof, it’s long and it has a hood.  Plus, it’s really cute.  I end up wearing jackets like this through much of the winter, since I hate bulky coats.  These usually fit the bill.

Taupe Nail Polish

I indulged in a mani/pedi before the funeral, and discovered “Taupe-less Beach” OPI nail polish.  It’s the perfect neutral shade for your fingers or toes.  I love it!

My +1 for the Week – Ugly Girl Clothes

Can mothers of girls unite and rebel against the fashions that are being put out there for our girls?  I was looking for a simple dress for my almost 13 year-old daughter, and found nothing but crap.  Case in point – this vest.  What is happening here?  Why do our girls need to be dressed in furry, flashy, trashy clothes?  Can someone fix this?

Thanks again to everyone for your support and prayers through this difficult time.

Jenny, will continue to keep all in prayer. And, I so can relate to the God nuggets. For us it is cardinals. I cannot tell you how many times they have shown up in various forms over the past year and a half after losing my MIL, my husband’s cancer diagnosis, surgery and now the selling of his childhood home. It really is comforting.

The God nuggets give so much comfort, don’t they? You just have to be open to them. Hang in there friend.

Jenny, I pray God give your family peace and comfort through this time. I love how God takes the time for our very special needs, “your little slice of rainbow”. He lets us know He will be with us through everything.

God can give perfect peace and comfort in heartbreaking times.
Totally agree with your clothing for girls rant. It even goes down to preschool and 6-6x sizes, who wants a child looking like a hooker!
