Friday 5+1 (5 Things I Love + 1 Thing I Don’t)

Hello!

Happy Friday friends!  We had our first snow day this week, and now the kids are (already) off for a teacher work day and MLK Day on Monday.  So I guess what I’m saying is, don’t expect my house to be clean anytime soon. 😉

I appear to be have a few minor issues with the blog migration to WordPress, and one of them includes being able to leave comments.  I’ve seen some comments come through, and have responded to them, yet I’m not seeing anywhere to actually leave a comment at the moment.  Bear with me – I’m working on it (well, my web guy is working on it).

Let’s get to this week’s Friday 5+1, shall we?

Rosemary Chicken Tortellini Soup
Cyndy, at The Creativity Exchange posted this chicken tortellini soup on her Facebook page, and it caught my eye for two reasons. 1) It looked delicious. 2) It was freezing cold, and a warm and yummy soup sounded amazing.  So, I made it this week, and it lived up to the hype – so delicious and flavorful, and really easy too.  If you haven’t tried it, I highly recommend it.

iOttie Magnetic Car Mount
My husband bought this magnetic car phone mount for me for Christmas, and it’s one of those little gadgets that I never knew I needed until I had it.  It allows you to have a place for your phone so it’s not flying around all over the place (which mine was).  It’s not that I’m texting and driving, but I do use my phone for directions (since I’m not really a fan of the GPS in my SUV), and I Bluetooth my phone to listen to Audible books on my phone while I’m driving too.  So, it’s nice to have it in one place.  And this one is great because it’s magnetic, and it attaches to the air vent in my car.  Other types of car mount devices with the suction cup wouldn’t stick to anything in my car.

Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc
If you’re a fan of white wine, you have to try Kim Crawford’s Sauvignon Blanc.  It’s so good – just the right mix – not too dry, not too sweet – it’s just right.  It’s my personal favorite, and I won’t say how many bottles of it we went through with all of the entertaining we did over the holidays.  Don’t worry, I have restocked.

Chalkboard tape
I saw this on one of the organizing groups that I follow, and it was news to me.  There’s chalkboard tape?  Yes, yes there is.  Now you know.  It’s ok, I didn’t know either.

And just so you know, there’s dry erase tape too.

Hamilton Parker Tile
I went shopping with a client for tile and went to Hamilton Parker near Cincinnati, where they have an amazing selection of tile that you just don’t find in the mainstream tile stores.

Like these beautiful tiles that can be ordered in just about any color or size you could imagine.  It’s like a paint palette of tile, which is probably why I loved it so much.

How about these beauties?  Gorgeous!  So many options, it’s easy to get distracted.  But it sure was fun looking at all that’s available out there.

My +1 for the week is something I’m trying to work on in terms of healthy habits – drinking more water.  What is it about drinking water that is so difficult for me?  Don’t shame me, but I’m an admitted Diet Coke drinker (I quit for over a year, and then got the flu last Thanksgiving and started up again, since at one point, it was the only thing that sounded good).  It’s like I’m force feeding myself.  Any tips for you avid H2O drinkers out there?

Have a great weekend!

Jenny

Sometimes I feel like drinking water with a straw somehow makes it easier to do. I also like to make sure when I’m going to sit at the computer for a while to have a glass near me. I just mindlessly drink it and I don’t even remember doing it.

Hope it helps and Happy New Year!

I love my water ice cold and have to force myself to drink lukewarm water. You might find you like one more than the other. I also have a Tervis cup that I carry EVERYWHERE I go so that I always have access to water. It has a great lid and these days I make sure I have a purse that I can carry it in easily. I’ve had it tip over a couple of times and it hasn’t been an issue as long as I have it closed:) I also keep most other types of beverages out of the house. Hope that helps!

My favorite way to get myself to drink water is by putting a small amount of organic lemon juice (they come in a 2 pack of large bottles at Costco) and a squirt of liquid vanilla stevia (Sweetleaf-I buy on subscription from Amazon). Its like a sugar free lemonaide. I could never drink real lemonaide because it’s too acidic for me (sugar makes the lemon acidic-lemon without sugar is alkaline). I can’t seem to get myself to drink plain water!

I gave up soda many years ago but I remember the primary problem was that I missed the effervescence and a flat drink just didn’t satisfy. Maybe flavored seltzer water would help kick the soda habit. My kids drink carbonated Desani instead of soda and like it, Especially the lemon or lime flavored!

Jenny., it might help to drink your h2o over ice. I sometimes put my water bottle in the freezer and let it get ice crystals in it – yummy. I drink h2o all the time and it has become a learned behavior.

I am loving those tiles. I wish we were working on a bathroom because I would love to put a printed tile floor in. I am seriously obsessed with those! I will have to try that wine too! I don’t have any good advice on the water since I try my best to do the same. My problem is tea and iced tea…that’s what I crave instead of water. I have gotten into the habit of sipping on a glass of water when I first wake up and sometimes I add lemon since that is supposed to be very cleansing. I need to drink more though. My husband is the one with the Diet Coke problem though. He drinks WAY too much of that every day. I wish I could get him to drink more water too! Great list – enjoy your week!

Hi! At my local CVS I found an infuser bottle that allows you to add fruit juices (I’m a lime fan) or the liquid flavored adders…another great water tip is Lupton green tea in the bags. They have several flavors (orange jasmine is my fav), and when added to I’ve water it seeps slowly. Flavor with no extra calories 🙂

    Love your before and afters!
