We have a busy few days ahead here – our 23rd(!) anniversary is on Sunday and my oldest son’s birthday (19) is on Tuesday. It’s going to be so strange not to have him here in person for his birthday, but my husband is going up for Dad’s weekend to see him, so at least he can deliver his birthday gifts in person. Let’s get on with this week’s Friday 5+1, shall we? This post contains some affiliate links.
Beautiful Vintage Dresser Makeover
Did you see Cassie’s stunning dresser makeover in General Finishes Persian Blue? Oh my goodness – how I’ve never used this color is a mystery, it’s right up my alley in terms of the aesthetic that I love when it comes to furniture and paint colors.
I have an empire dresser that’s been sitting in my garage for months now, and I’m thinking I need to give this color a try. Can you see the possibilities? I might have to take some cues off of Cassie’s hardware choices too. There’s something about glass knobs that just gets me every time.
Epic Halloween Parties
My friend Hollie has a knack for throwing parties, decorating her home, running a business, and raising four kids – pretty much everything. She and her husband hosted a Halloween party last weekend, and while the holiday is over, the party is still worth sharing. I knew it was going to be amazing, when we walked in the door and were greeted with this. Yes, it’s an ice sculpture.
Fun food too –
And a little humor in the form of napkins –
Take Five
While I’m not a huge candy eater, I think that the Take Five is a highly under appreciated candy. I bought some to give out for Halloween, and while my son dissed it, I assured him that the kids’ parents would appreciate this yummy candy. It’s peanuts, peanut butter, pretzels, caramel and chocolate. I think it’s the pretzels that make it for me. Sometimes it’s the little things, isn’t it?
Fun Thanksgiving Placemats
I spotted these activity placemats last week, and thought they were a cute and fun idea for Thanksgiving if you have little ones who need entertaining at the table.
But don’t worry, they even have coloring placemats for adults.
Fun Christmas Dishes
Even though I really don’t need any new holiday dishes, when I see them, I always want to buy them. Especially when they’re as cute as these that I saw at our local Fleurish shop.
I still love all things cars+trees when it comes to the holidays.
My +1 for the week – A chirping smoke detector at midnight
What is it about smoke detectors and batteries that causes them to die when it’s late at night and I’m going to bed? And then, of course, I have no 9 volt batteries. Run up to the gas station – closed. Nothing like going to Kroger at midnight on a weeknight. Believe me, I googled every possible way to get it to shut up so I could go to sleep. It’s always fun reading an article telling you that the “simplest way to get it to stop chirping, is to change the batteries” when it’s midnight and you have no batteries.
Have an awesome weekend!

November 3, 2017 at 11:28 amLove the color of the dresser Cassie painted. It would be beautiful for the dresser you have as well. And yes, the batteries always seem to die late at night! UGH.
Happy Anniversary and Happy Birthday to your boy too.

November 3, 2017 at 6:46 pmNope – still chirps. I think it’s tied into the house alarm system somehow.

November 5, 2017 at 6:51 pmI love that blue color, too! I have a Bombay chest that is due for a makeover and I’m considering that blue. I adore the Christmas dishes (holiday dishes) and usually scour the thrift shops for some that want to go home with me.
Smoke detectors – trying to detect WHICH smoke detector is doing the beeping is what aggravates me!
