Master Bathroom Design Plan

Hello!

I hope you had a great Labor Day holiday (if you’re in the US), and are ready to usher in a new fall season.  I’m not quite there yet.  I know summer is over, and I love fall, I just wish it lasted longer, and that we could skip over winter altogether.  Or a least have it end once Christmas is over.  Is that too much to ask?

I spent my Labor Day holiday on the couch, after having a lovely tooth extraction on Friday morning.  Me + dental work = 🙁  I’m headed back in to see the oral surgeon since I feel like my healing is going in reverse right now.  When your teeth aren’t right, nothing is right.  Right?

Anyway, before I went to the dentist, I did some shopping with my parents, who are redoing their master bathroom.  It’s going to be a great transformation when it’s all said and done, and it’s been fun spending their money helping them choose the different finishes for this space.

Here it is as it stands now (we’re experimenting with mirror sizes):

If you go to the right of the vanity, you’ll find the toilet and shower area.

Their bathroom isn’t overly large, so we want to make the most out of the space in terms of storage and function, while also bringing it into the 21st century in terms of style and finishes.  We already decided on a double vanity in a creamy white, with a polished chrome faucet similar to this one.  We’re also planning on incorporating some built-in storage to the right as you enter the bathroom.

Then we started by looking at floor tile.

This one is gorgeous, with a linen texture to it.

Another interesting one here – lots of pretty colors too.

A similar look, with some more yummy color choices.

We took these samples with us, and went on the hunt for backsplash tile, that we’re planning on using on the wall where the mirrors will be mounted.

My parents bathroom as it stands now

The tile store we explored for the backsplash tile was filled with so many gorgeous samples, it was hard to know where to begin.

Some stunning designs for sure –

Who can resist some penny tile (the cream wood sample here is the color of the new vanity).

This was one of my personal favorites, but I had to remember that I wasn’t there shopping for myself…

This grey marble is a stunner as well.  So classic.

And then we stumbled upon this backsplash of beauty.  My parents don’t have a lot of grey going on in their house, so we wanted to make sure that it flowed with the other colors they have in place.  This one is perfect.  It has hints of grey, brown, cream and white, and is timeless and gorgeous.

And it works beautifully with the linen tile that we picked up earlier – in a darker shade than we originally thought we liked.  It almost looks like a tweed finish, and picks up on the darker elements of the backsplash too.  Winner!

I love this tile so much, I wish it was going in my own master bathroom!  We’re going to finish it off with a pair of mirrors – something along these lines, maybe with some sconces?  Depends on how much room we have to work with – it’s a pretty slim space.

Can you see it?  It’s going to be a lot of fun watching it all come together.  Now that we’re finalizing selections, things should get rolling!
