Like I said before, I had been avoiding this project like I do the scale after the holidays. It’s just been hanging over my head, looming (again, like the scale after the holidays). Nevermind that my husband has been bugging asking me when I was going to finish it. After all, he busted out the board cutting/nailing over the holidays (yes, it’s been that long).
Now that it’s done, I wonder why I let it loom for so long. It looks fabulous, and, like all of the other board and batten I have in my house, I. love. it. Lord help us if board and batten isn’t as timeless as I think it is. I will be in deep sh.. trouble if that happens. But for now, take a look! (Brace yourself for photo overload)…
Let’s look at where we began. Digging back to one of my “before” photos before we moved in.
Below is the view as you’re coming downstairs (the greenery on the banister is garland – just another reminder of how long this project has been sitting around unfinished)…
In progress:
And once again – FINALLY FINISHED!!
My husband was so excited to have this project completed that he measured and figured out how to carry the board and batten up the stairs. 🙂 On his way out the door to Lowe’s (yes, for supplies) he said, “Are we biting off too much for a Sunday afternoon?” I just told him, “But that’s how we work.”
As I was finishing this up, I started thinking that this wall is just screaming “Make me a gallery wall!” So, I have been collecting some photos, paintings and going to Lowe’s searching the house for other things to finish off this wall. I’m really excited about how it’s all coming together.
So, are you sick of board and batten yet?

March 18, 2011 at 5:30 amLooks fantastic! I am getting ready to tackle this in my laundry room…its a small room, so I figure its a good place to start! It looks like you kept your existing baseboards & just angled the bottom of your battens? Is that right? I have the wide white baseboards already & really don't want to rip them up…any advice?

August 25, 2011 at 1:51 pmI love it! I just completed my first board and batten project in my Friend's entrance and find myself wanting to put it everywhere! I see you have put it several places in your house and it looks great everywhere!
May I ask where you purchased your bar stools? I have a friend who is looking for chairs like that.

February 5, 2012 at 3:10 amMy husband and I did our townhouse in South Carolina. It was alot of work. Yours looks so nice, but I would like to make a suggestion for your basement, you should never end your last piece at the light switch. A proper ending for your situation would be just where the landing starts. The light switch draws attention to the cutoff batten. I would remove that piece and continue your board and batten just up to the landing. It would look so nice, otherwise put one complete batten board to finish what you have. You spent so much time on what you did already I love the look of your house it's great.
