2024 Projects and Plans

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve put together a post, and I ended up not doing a holiday tour this year because it’s super stressful, and I just needed a break.  It may come back next year, in some form, but for once, it was nice to step back a bit, even though the holidays are still busy and hectic! I’ve been giving some thought to things that I want to work on this year, and I would like to get get back to blog basics this year.  Home projects, paint colors, kitchen projects, design ideas.  I have a lot of projects on my to do list here at home, and that’s what I have always loved sharing on this blog.

First Project for 2024

My first project is finishing up what once was a basement spare bedroom.  It’s been torn up for awhile due to a water issue that we couldn’t figure out.  We spent an inordinate amount of time and money getting to the bottom of the problem, but it’s finally fixed, and it forced me to think outside the box in terms of design, because I now have a second sump pump in this space. Attractive, yes?

Rest assured, I have come up with a great way to hide the sump pump, and make this space look amazing.  There is still some work left to do, but I love the direction it’s headed.  Here is a sneak peek at the colors that were in the running.

The Vibe

I’m going for a dark and moody vibe to this space.  Think Speakeasy.  I’m hoping to make this space a lounge area, with some extra sleeping space as well.  I have ideas in my head, that I’m hoping I can make a reality.  Having an open floor plan is great,  but Covid taught me that it’s good to have some rooms where you can close the door.  I have all of my kids at home for the moment (oldest is due to move out in May), but when they all have people over, it’s good to have multiple spaces where they can hang out in the basement, with a little bit of separation.  That’s the goal of this room.

In other news, I’m moving.  Not out of my house, but my shop space where I paint.  My rent has continued to go up, and a smaller space came available in my complex. So, I’m making the leap and moving to a new place.  I’m excited about it, as I was about ready to close my doors.  Having a space to work outside of my house is a gift. I love being able to work and then leave it there. 

2024 Projects and Plans

Back to my post title – 2024 Projects and Plans.  Here is what I have in mind for this year (in addition to the spare room redo):

• Basement media room – needs a revamp and an updated look.  Hoping to redo this area once my oldest moves out (his bedroom is down there) so I can give it a refresh.  Right now it’s turning into a basement apartment, and I am ready to take back control!
• Office redo – my husband’s office is a bit of a hot mess, and looking a little tired.  Now that the floors match the rest of our main floor, I’m ready to give it a revamp. It still has this vibe going on (albeit, much messier at the moment), and the window coverings and seat cushions are original to the house.  Time to change things up.

• Outdoor projects – my daughter graduates from high school this year, so that means graduation party.  The yard will have to be in prime shape, and there is work to be done!
• Master bathroom remodel – we’re in the early stages of planning, but it’s on the radar. Getting an idea of cost, and I have a lot of ideas swirling in my head.
• Paint color spotlights – I still have a love of all things paint, and would like to do a series that spotlights different colors that catch my eye.
• Books and 5+1 posts like this – I still love sharing my favorite reads and my 5+1 posts force me to pay attention to some cool things out there.  More of that coming this year.

So that’s a quick update for where my head is at for 2024.  I’m going back to what brought me to blogging in the first place. Getting creative and sharing projects and design trends that catch my eye.  Plus, I always love a good project!
