A Thoughtful Mother’s Day Gift Idea

With Mother’s Day just around the corner, I know that many of you are looking for something different, and outside of the usual gifts.  Not that flowers or jewelry is ever a bad idea, but as a mom, I’m always a fan of a thoughtful Mother’s Day gift idea, especially if it involves my kids making something for me vs. buying it, no matter how old they are.

This idea came to mind because the kids and I put something together for my husband’s (gulp) 50th birthday, and I thought it would be perfect as a Mother’s Day gift as well.  It’s easy, inexpensive, and something any mom would love.   This post contains some affiliate links.

Creative Mother's Day Gift Idea

Here’s what you need:

The kids and I divided up the 50 cards among ourselves and wrote things that we love about Dad, and why we’re glad he was born.  I took a peek at some of their cards, and they’re so sweet, funny and thoughtful – I love them!

So obviously you don’t need to do 50 Things – we did that as a birthday-specific idea.  How about 10, 20, 25 things maybe?  Dad could add things to the list, and if the kiddos are little, have them draw pictures, cut out magazine photos, or something along those lines.  Dad could even write down what the kids say if they can’t write yet.  Use your imagination!  I think  I speak on behalf of all moms, that we love Mother’s Day gift ideas that are thoughtful and creative, right?

Love this Jenny. I had planned to do something similar to honor my MIL for her birthday in August (she passed in March of this year). I thought I would have family members send notes of sweet memories and put them together for my husband to have.

I think that’s a great idea Lauren. These are the gifts that mean the most to me, and I love the thought that the kids put into it too. An insight into their minds. 😉

Absolutely! The most precious gifts are those we can look on later. I recently found a little journal my son kept for a short time when he was in 2nd grade (he is now coming up on 21, gulp) and we both had a chuckle, so cute. Having written confirmation that one is appreciated is a gift that will never go out of style!

Anybody cutting onions here? *Sniffs* This is truly a wonderful idea not just for Mother’s Day or other special occasions, but on any given day. Motherhood is tough, but with reminders like these, it will always be worth it. Thank you very much for sharing!
