We had a big week this week, celebrating our 24th wedding anniversary, and my son’s (gulp) 20th birthday. I’m not sure how either one of those milestones happened – especially my son’s 20th birthday. That’s just plain crazy. But, he’s loving college, and doing well, which is all you want as a mom of a 20 year-old, right? And, since he came home to vote, we got to celebrate with him at home. #winning Let’s get on with this week’s Friday 5+1! This post contains some affiliate links.
Clip Ornaments
Maybe you’re already familiar with clip ornaments, so this isn’t a new thing to you, but it’s new to me. It’s another one of those “duh” ideas, leaving me wondering why I hadn’t whipped up this idea in my sleep. So smart, and it makes so much sense when you’re putting up your tree. Sometimes you have more room for ornaments, but it gets tricky with just hanging ornaments with hooks. So, why not add some clip ornaments to your tree this year?
Galvanized Christmas Containers
I spotted these at Walmart of all places, but they were too cute not to share. Even though I don’t need any new Christmas decor, I could imagine one of these filled with birch logs and greenery, sitting outside on your front porch, or inside, perched next to your fireplace. Note to self: go back to Walmart and pick one up anyway.
Fun Cocktail Napkins
I always pick up some new napkins and paper plates to keep on hand at this time of year, and who doesn’t love some that have a bit of a sense of humor?
How have I missed these before?
Or these?
Burlap & Birch
I discovered Burlap & Birch in a town near us, and was overwhelmed by the styling, products and sheer volume of beautiful stuff that they had. It was like Joanna Gaines herself sprinkled her magic dust throughout this place. I had to make my way through the store twice just to take it all in. Let me show you why.
Such beautifully styled shelves throughout the store, I wanted to just pick them up and take them home.
The basement is filled with furniture and lighting.
If only I had the right house (or business) for these beauties…
Christmas Tree Collars
I finally picked up a Christmas tree collar this year, and I can’t wait to use it! They’re a fun alternative to a tree skirt, especially if you have an extra tree (or three or four) in your house. There are so many fun options too.
You can go with one that has a basket vibe to it, like this Willow Christmas Tree Collar.
Or a Galvanized Christmas Tree Collar:
This Gold Christmas Tree Collar kicks up the elegance factor big time, doesn’t it?
How about a high gloss red tree collar? It would look gorgeous with multi-colored lights on your tree, don’t you think?
My +1 for the week – dreams about moving
I have a couple of recurrent dreams that I find distressing. Dreams about being pregnant (at my age, you can understand why they’re distressing), and dreams about moving. I just had a dream about moving over the weekend, and the reason that it’s upsetting is because I don’t want to move in these dreams.
It’s like we agreed to sell our house but then, I’m left asking, “Why are we moving? I don’t want to move!” In this last one, we were moving from our house to an apartment – maybe I was going to build my dream home? But it was happening just weeks before the holidays, and I’m thinking, “Why are we doing this? A bunch of people are coming for Thanksgiving!”
And then I wake up. Thank goodness.
Do you have any weirdo recurrent dreams?

November 9, 2018 at 7:56 amI have a small house with four young kids. I have a reoccuring dream that I open a door in our house, that I hadn’t noticed before, and there is whole other wing of the house I didn’t even know existed and I’m filled with joy and confusion of – why were we living in cramped conditions all this time?!?!

November 10, 2018 at 6:41 pmThat’s hysterical Amber! Dreams are just such a crazy window into our subconscious, aren’t they?

November 9, 2018 at 9:27 amThose cocktail napkins are a riot. Always fun conversation starters. I would get lost in that store for hours! I have thought about a tree collar, but not sure with our large stand and the ginormous tree we usually get how that would work. I too would be a little freaked out if I had those kind of dreams.

November 10, 2018 at 6:38 pmThe one I went to is in Lebanon. But they have a few throughout the Cincinnati area. You can see all of the locations on their website – https://www.myburlapandbirch.com.

November 10, 2018 at 6:39 pmYou just reminded me of another recurring dream – that I’m in the Olympics as a figure skater, and have NO IDEA how to skate. Terrifying!!
