Hello!
It’s been a crazier week than you would believe around here, and I’m happy to have this week drawing to a close. It feels like early spring too – I want my summer temps back, please!
Time for the 5 things I love + the 1 thing I don’t. Let’s get to it!
This Old House – The Search for America’s Best Remodel
I discovered this through a friend, whose home is in the contest for the Best Whole House Remodel. Their house was a diamond in the rough, just a stone’s throw from our old house. It was built in 1905, and it was in sad shape before they bought it and made it beautiful. It even has a carriage house, which has me smitten. If you want to take a look and give them some love click here. I know a lot of blood, sweat and tears went into this restoration, and have seen their beautiful home firsthand. (They also have kitchen, bathroom, yard remodels, etc… Good stuff!)
Here is the before – you won’t believe the after!
HGTV’s Fixer Upper
Has anyone caught this show yet? If so, do you love it like I do? Chip and Joanna Gaines help families find a fixer upper (alas, the name of the show, Fixer Upper) and then design and do the work. I absolutely love Joanna’s style, and they have such vision – I’ve been amazed at what they have been able to create, given the state of some of these homes when they get their hands on them. And they are adorable too.
Like this home for example:
Transformed into this:
Say whaaaaat? Gorgeous!
The interiors are equally stunning.
Set your DVR. You won’t be disappointed.
House Hunters Off the Grid
Since we’re talking about HGTV shows, I caught a few episodes of House Hunters Off the Grid, and have to admit, I am intrigued. Mainly because this show is one that I would never be featured on, because I love my modern amenities and being on the grid. It features couples and families who are looking to live in unconventional locations with very few of the comforts of home. Some of the homes on the tours even lack electricity and an indoor bathroom. Call me a wimp, this girl needs an indoor bathroom.
Bar Keeper’s Friend
Maybe I’m late to the party, but have you ever tried this stuff? Bar Keeper’s Friend cleans stainless steel (rust, lime and other stains) like nobody’s business!
Retro Refrigerators
Even though my kitchen is far from vintage, someday I would love one of these retro fridges. I get happy just looking at it.
Big Chill sells them in all sorts of vintage colors and sizes. What’s not to love?
The one thing I don’t like right now, is the thought of my 15 1/2 year-old son getting his temporary driver’s license. Which means he’ll be driving. I’m really not ready for this next parenting leap, let me tell you. I prefer this kind of driving situation:
This is the only time you’ll catch me relaxed and smiling with my son behind the wheel. Serenity now!
Have a great weekend!

May 16, 2014 at 1:53 pmOoooh, I know I would love the Fixer Upper show. House Hunters not so much. It seems like that's all HGTV ever shows is some sort of House Hunters which gets BORING. PS. I still love driving the old time cars when we go to Six Flags and I'm 44. I don't think you ever out grow them even when you do become a "real" driver. Haha. Have a great day!

May 16, 2014 at 3:59 pmSerenity now, indeed! 🙂 I totally understand about your teen driving. I have one who's been driving for a few years and another one getting ready to start. I will say that it definitely gets easier with each one. Once you see the first one survives, you relax a little knowing the next in line will survive too. 🙂 Doesn't mean you won't worry, but you will get to where you can relax (a little) Lol! I have a white porcelain sink and Bar Keepers Friend gets out every little scratch from my stainless steel pots and pans. Love that stuff! And you can't beat the price!
