Hello!
I feel like I have been doing a lot of searching and shopping with this round of the One Room Challenge. Do you ever know in your head what you want, but just can’t find it? That’s me right now. But I’m getting close, and perhaps you will have some thoughts on where I’m at right now. Hopefully everything will come together in the end.
In case you’re new here, you can catch up on my progress in redoing my 10 year-old daughter’s bedroom here:
I talked last week about my bedding dilemma, since I’ve had a hard time finding something we both agree upon, and it’s partially solved. For starters, I decided to go with a plain white duvet cover, similar to this one.

I figured this would allow for easy changes, since my daughter’s tastes change quite frequently. This way I can switch things out easily with accessories and throw blankets. One of the comments last week brought this up, and it had been on my mind – I’m glad you suggested it!
I have been searching high and low for a graphic blanket for the foot of the bed, that incorporates more punches of color. These are what have caught my eye so far.
I keep coming back to this one – the colors are perfect, and the graphic design is on point as well.
Here is another contender. Similar colors, different design. Although this one looks more coral and orange – I get nervous when I’m buying online and can’t see the colors firsthand.
Then I found this one from Pottery Barn Teen. Not a graphic print like the others, but the colors are good, albeit more muted, and the price is right.
And then there’s this adorable little show stopper. How cute is this?! This is just one of a great selection of graphic throws at Happy Habitat. I changed my mind. I think this one is my favorite.
What’s not to love?
I’m trying to justify spending extra $$ on a cute throw, but am struggling with it, quite honestly. But, it’s not like I have a lot of options right now – I can’t find anything that has this color mix in the stores! In addition to the bedding, I’ve been working on pulling together a color palette with fabric, and I feel like I’m close to having an epiphany. I was shopping fabric for ideas on curtains (I have recruited my mom to help if I choose to have her sew them), and I also have plans for a bulletin board space. I figured that would give me a couple of options to incorporate some additional pattern and color, outside of the bedding.
My daughter went straight to the graphic pattern on the bottom, and I love that fabric too. I think that will be a great choice for a bulletin board. I’m considering the solid fabric for curtains, but want to give them some embellishment of some sort as well – pom-pom fringe perhaps? Some sort of border fabric or trim? That should be straight forward enough, right Mom? 😉 I would love it if I could find a pink and orange pom-pom fringe – that would be a perfect tie in of all of the colors.
On the furniture front, the desk has been put together and I have been busy repairing the nightstand that I scored at the Ballard Outlet.
It’s gone from this:
To this:
And now it looks like this:
I know it’s not totally leveled out, but I’m getting there. A huge improvement, don’t you think?
I used Minwax High Performance Wood Filler for the repair job. It’s magic.
And I have some great inspiration for painting it. Again, I’ve had ideas in the back of my mind, but this stunning desk from Velvet Finishes sealed the deal for me.
Can you see it?
It’s destiny, I tell you.
So that’s where I’m at now. It’s progress – much more than I feel like I’ve been making, now that I sit down and write it. 🙂
Come on over to Calling it Home and check out all of the action!

October 22, 2015 at 11:43 pmI'm still trying to convince myself on the throw – but I think it could be the "wow" factor that this room needs. Or that's what I'm telling myself anyway… 😉

October 22, 2015 at 3:32 pmI love the inspiration for the nightstand – YES!! Also, I need to repair a drawer so your photos on how you filled in that chip are so helpful – thank you. Adding that wood filler to the list for my next hardware store run. I think white bedding will give you so many options through the years – plus you can bleach the heck out of it!!
