Weekend 5+1 (5 Things I Love + 1 Thing I Don’t) – 1.28.24

I haven’t jumped on the Dry January bandwagon (I feel like I did my time with multiple pregnancies), but I am doing a “No Doordash January” instead.  We looked at our Doordash spending for the year, and it was not pretty.  Granted, we didn’t pay for all of it, since we all use the account, but it was a wake up call.  I have been working on cooking more anyway, so this plan feeds into that as well.  I’m happy to say that I have held up my end of the deal!

Let’s get on with this Weekend 5+1, shall we? This post contains some affiliate links.

Pretty Oil/Vinegar Bottles

Since I’ve been working on cooking more and branching out with recipes, it makes sense that these pretty oil and vinegar bottles caught my eye.  I have my olive oil out on the counter, and I’m upgrading it to something pretty.  If salt and pepper get their own pinch pots, then why not oils and vinegars?  They even come with labels so you can make them custom to your needs.

St. Tropez Self Tanner

I know I’ve shared the St. Tropez Self Tanning Mousse before, but it warrants sharing it again.  Especially since we’re in the middle of seasonal depression season.  I swear, we haven’t seen the sun in at least a week, and it’s wearing me down.  Self tanner at least gives me the look of sun, even if I haven’t seen it.  I went on my annual scrapbooking trip, and people asked me why I was so tan – surprised that it’s out of a bottle.  It’s that good.

Iona Iverson’s Rules for Commuting

I am trying to get back into a rhythm with reading again this year, and I got off to a good start with Iona Iverson’s Rules for Commuting.  It’s a nice story that ties together a group of strangers who become friends after experiences on their daily train ride.  I love stories like this where people actually get to know one another, in person, and create meaningful relationships.  It’s a good story and an easy read.

Relax Light Bulbs

I have ranted and raved about the state of light bulbs, and continue to be frustrated by many of them.  The vibe of an incandescent bulb is what I want.  Period.  Enter Relax light bulbs.  They give the feel of an incandescent bulb, but are LED lights.  It’s the best thing I’ve seen that meets my soft white light criteria without flickering, being too cool, or too bright and artificial.

Simple Home Edit

As I mentioned earlier, I’m cooking more, so I’m on the hunt for new recipes to keep things fresh and avoid ruts and boredom.  I found Simple Home Edit on Instagram, and she has such a great vault of recipes.  She has different series that feature 30 days of 30 minute meals on a budget.  They’re quick, they’re easy and they’re tasty!  If you’re trying to cook more in 2024, give her a look! I made this Quick Beef and Broccoli Noodles last week, and it was a major hit.  Super simple, and delicious.  If you find her on Instagram, she has an Australian accent, which makes her even more fun to watch.

My +1 for the week – People who hit your car and leave

My daughter worked this weekend, and then spent the night at a friend’s house.  The following morning, she discovered this on her passenger side door.  She didn’t notice it the night before since it was dark, and on her passenger side.  But here we have it.

No note, no insurance contact, nothing.  Just very disheartening, because this isn’t a circumstance where someone backed up and “tapped” someone else’s bumper.  You know you did some damage with something like this.  Now she’s trying to get hold of camera footage to see if we can figure out what happened.  Apparently it happened to another one of her coworkers, and they were able to find the person who did it.  Just do the right thing, people.

Hope your week is off to a great start!

Jenny

Oh no! Too bad about the car! Great finds though…I had to laugh when you mentioned the light bulbs because I’m constantly complaining about not finding any good ones! I am going to try the ones you mentioned! Have a great week!
