Weekend 5+1 (5 Things I Love + 1 Thing I Don’t) – 8.23.20

I apologize for the unintended blog break – summer seems to do that to me.  Our schedules are all out of whack, and we’re just free wheeling it, and I’m a girl who loves schedule and structure.  Unfortunately for me, 2020 has kind of blown all of that up in a big way.  I’m really hoping that with the coming school year, things will settle back into some sort of “normal” – whatever that is.  My boys headed back to school, and my daughter will start her freshman year after Labor Day.  I’m really hoping they can make it work, because the whole online school thing was awful in the Spring.  In the meantime, I’ve put together a Weekend 5+1 for you. 🙂  This post contains some affiliate links.

Lorac Pro Palette 3

Granted, I’m not putting on a face of makeup all that often these days, but I recently purchased the Lorac Pro Palette 3 and I love the colors – they’re fresh and pretty, fitting for just about anyone.  Plus, their eye shadow products are just nice.  I’ve used some of their other pro palettes before and have always been happy with the quality.

Spider Pumpkin Holders

I’m really not in a rush for fall yet (because I’m anticipating a very depressing winter, thank you, Covid), but these cute spider pumpkin holders might help my mood a bit.  I love seeing new ways to style pumpkins that are outside of the box.

A Good Marriage by Kimberly McCreight

I’m back to listening to books on a pretty regular basis, and recently listened to A Good Marriage.  It’s a “domestic thriller” and a really interesting story that also gives a peek into the lives of marriages, leaving you to wonder what’s real and what lies behind the curtain.  It kept me guessing, and kept me surprised, which I love in a good book.

Migrastil

In the interest of full transparency, I haven’t used this product (yet), but it was recommended to me, and it has great reviews, so that’s why I’m sharing.  When I go to bed, I used to use this amazing Aveda roll-on product which was like a soothing scented oil, that helped me fall asleep.  But then Aveda changed it, and from what a friend of mine said, it’s crap now.  I don’t know why people keep changing things that aren’t broken…  But, this Migrastil product looks like it could be a good alternative.  My husband makes fun of me for my nighttime “rituals” – lotions, potions and routines – but I guess that’s what happens when you get older and set in your ways, right?

Pretty Tile Options

We’re still working on a plan for my daughter’s bathroom (which is of course turning into a bigger project).  We have been looking at backsplash tile for her vanity area, and in that process, we browsed flooring options that we liked, and she picked out a gorgeous honed marble.  Yep, she’s my daughter.  I told her that if I don’t have honed marble in my bathroom, she’s not getting it. 😉

But we both really love these tile options

It’s a work in progress.  Especially since we’re looking at changing out the floor tile as well.  So, bigger decisions need to be made in this whole process.  And it will be a good test run to see how difficult this tile is to remove, since we have it in a lot of areas in our house.  Fingers crossed.

My +1 for the week is people talking with their cell phones on speaker.  In public.

Maybe this is just a pet peeve of mine, but it drives me crazy.  I remember being in Hobby Lobby and I could hear a woman talking on her cell phone (on speaker) when I was aisles away from her.  Another woman was talking on speaker while on the bike at the gym.  (This same woman also took a video call during a CLASS).  Seriously?  Are people just that oblivious to their surroundings?  I guess I know the answer to that one.

Am I missing something here?  That’s rude, right?

Hope you’re all hanging in there!

Jenny

Hi Jenny. Rude people loudly on phones drive me crazy too. Your gym needs to have enforced phone rules – it’s way too distracting for everyone else. Paying customers deserve better! I had trouble with a rude woman at yoga class. Hard to believe. Many of us are struggling with our new lives right now and I don’t think it’s too much to ask that we can get in a healthy class without agitation. Hang in there. From one paint geek to another.

YES!!! The gym is my sanctuary, and I get really resentful when that place is invaded with annoying people!

One of my pet peeves! People who talk loudly on their phones while shopping, even worse if it’s on speaker! I especially hate it when I’m in a relatively quiet antique shop or book store. I mean.. come on! Seriously rude. Love LOVE those tiles selections. Gorgeous.

I just don’t know how so many people are so unaware of their surroundings. It baffles me.

Yep, one of my pet peeves, too. When I decide to use my gym’s indoor track there is always some fool walking with their phone yakking away. Ignoring posted signs about cell phone use. Besides, how can you even begin to get a workout if you’re on the phone? Prefer to run outdoors as a result.

Agree! Not to mention that it’s just inconsiderate, especially in public, around other people.

So glad to see you’re back. Love your 5and1. So true about annoying people aND their phones. Wish there was a way we could zap them.
