Hello friends!
The dining room is already shaping up, looking way better than it did when I started. After getting all of the wallpaper down, I agonized over paint colors for awhile, and decided on Benjamin Moore’s Horizon Gray.
With this color, the room has a bright and fresh feeling, but still get the contrast that I’m looking for.
I considered a few different colors in my process of elimination.
The Horizon Gray looks kind of green in this photo, and in some lights, it does take on a smidge of a greenish undertone, depending upon the time of day. But, it’s shaping up to be a versatile color and I like how it coordinates with the other colors in the house.
There is still much to be done in this room, and I haven’t hung any of the pictures back up at this point, so bear with the sparseness for the moment.
And just so you know, I wasn’t trying to go all artistic with this shot, looking down on the dining room. I had to move up to rise above the chaos below.
So, that’s where I’m at right now. Still much to be done, but it’s definitely an improvement from where we started. Notice also that I painted the little area around the ceiling so that it all blends seamlessly vs. drawing attention to it with paint that matches the wall. I am digging how it makes the ceiling taller and the space more open.
I’m working on some ideas for artwork to add to what we already have and create a new look by mixing things up a bit. More on that soon.
What rooms are you working on right now? Do you have any major evolutions going on in your house right now or are you changing things up in smaller, yet meaningful ways?

January 6, 2012 at 1:22 pmNice! My room work isn't as exciting… I'm decluttering and organizing my garage. But after that I am redoing my bedroom and that will be fun!

January 6, 2012 at 4:45 pmLooks great! I'll have to check out Horizon Grey next time I paint. We actually have Pashmina in our Master Bath and Accessible Beige in our Dining Room. Too funny!

January 6, 2012 at 5:29 pmI used to work for a realtor and the color we always made people repaint over crazy colors in their house before they put it on the market was accessible beige! So funny to see that in your color choices…it brought back so many memories of that job and all the houses that we sold because of accessible beige.
I love the grey! was thinking of doing my downstairs in a blue/grey color this year.

January 6, 2012 at 6:12 pmLooks great! Yup, we're working on OUR WHOLE HOUSE AT ONCE! Some kind of crazy bug bit us back in the fall. Right now we're in the Master Bedroom. Just finished painting, and now working on some stenciling and trim. Your dining room looks so serene and fresh now. Yet still warm and cozy at the same time. Can't wait to see all the finishing touches!

January 6, 2012 at 6:49 pmWow Jenny, just taking down the wallpaper and painting the walls totally changes the room! Those windows are awesome. I'm as excited about this space as if it's in my own house (living vicariously through others perhaps?? 🙂

June 26, 2013 at 5:09 pmI just tried a sample of Horizon Gray (# 2141-50) and it appears darker in a bright room than what you have in your photos. Did you use a lighter shade?
Jenny
June 27, 2013 at 4:08 pmNope, didn't use a lighter shade. Just the standard Horizon Gray.

August 2, 2013 at 6:36 pmI am in the process of repainting our new construction home. The dominant interior color on all walls and ceilings is SW Accessible Beige (one of your considerations for this room), and I can't wait to get rid of it. It is truly sad and depressing color. Horizon Gray is my likely pick for our walkout basement.
