Happy Monday!
I am thrilled to report that my biggest DIY project to date is now complete. After three weekends and nearly every weeknight in between, my kitchen cabinets are finally painted, and I am over-the-moon-giddy with the final result! They look light, bright and beautiful – like a brand new kitchen!
Best yet, I’m so proud that I did it all myself. Every now and then during this process, I would catch my husband saying, “We’re repainting the kitchen cabinets.” Um, no honey. I’m repainting the kitchen cabinets. 😉
I was hoping to have the walls painted too, but ran out of time and didn’t want to delay sharing the end result with all of you. (So, don’t mind the overspray – it will be fixed soon)
So, let’s get started with the photo overload, shall we?
And what reveal would be complete without some before and after photos? I’m particularly happy with how the white cabinets completely change the look of the granite. Before, I was happy to have granite, but I didn’t love it. Now, I am really loving the granite – it doesn’t look so muddy anymore.
Here is a picture from when we first bought our house, almost a year ago (to the day).
(Pay no attention to the big, lazy black dog in the doorway.)
UPDATED: Here is a glimpse of the kitchen after the walls were painted. You can see the full Kitchen Evolution here and a complete tutorial here or click on the photo below.
Honestly, a year ago, I never would have imagined having the courage or the confidence to tackle this project on my own. Watching so many of you make amazing transformations in your own homes, has, in turn, not only inspired me, but also given me the confidence to do this myself.
And for that, I thank you.
Come on over and check out a new feature at A Vintage Vine, called “Did You See This Friday”. Lisa is featuring great projects from around the blogosphere, and I’m thrilled to be included in this series debut!

June 5, 2013 at 3:08 pmGorgeous! What a transformation! When I remodeled my kitchen I used this measurement guide: https://www.cabinetstogo.com/measuring-guide.html It saved me a ton of time and guess work! Hope it helps someone as much as it helped me.

January 1, 2015 at 7:58 pmBeautiful! What color white did you use on the cabinets? We are redoing our kitchen and I'm having the hardest time deciding!

January 2, 2015 at 10:26 pmWe had a cabinet sample color matched for a custom color. If you email me directly, I can give you the formula (since I don't have your email from your comment and I can't post the photo in the comments). Looks like I need to add this to my post! 🙂

June 9, 2017 at 11:45 amI’m totally in love with your kitchen! I am interested to know what color was used to paint your kitchen cabinets. They are beautiful!

June 9, 2017 at 12:05 pmMy cabinets are a custom color that I had matched to a cabinet sample that I liked. If you look at this blog post – https://evolutionofstyleblog.com/2012/01/how-to-paint-your-kitchen-cabinets-like.html – it has the color formula. But it’s only for Benjamin Moore paints.

February 3, 2015 at 7:26 pmI love your cabinets! Can you tell me about the underneath lighting of your cabinetry: is it a strip light fixture or individual pucks? How is the light controlled, by a button on the light itself or a wall switch? I'm not an electrician, I am a wife just looking into remodeling our kitchen so all the right terminology would be helpful!

January 30, 2016 at 2:16 pmWhat is the name of your granite? Thanks!
Jenny
January 30, 2016 at 4:34 pmI’m not sure what our granite is called Gena – we didn’t build the house. I can say that it is a mix of a lot of brown, with some black, gray and cream – if that helps at all. Sorry!
