Weekday 5+1 (5 Things I Love + 1 Thing I Don’t) – 6.27.23

I have blog posts in my head that I have not yet put to “paper” yet, so in the meantime, I figured I’d share a 5+1.  It’s during the week, yes, but sometimes you just have to go with it.  The weather has been garbage (I don’t know where the summer went, but I want it to come back).  It takes awhile to pull things together that I like, so when it happens, I like to share them.  Let’s get to it.  This post contains some affiliate links.

The Whispers

I have been lacking in the book sharing department lately, but this one is a goodie.  If you ever read The Push, you’re sure to love this one.  Ashley Audrain, the author of The Push, is out with a new book, and I’m happy to report it’s another page turner.  I always love it when an author is able to put out another book that exceeds expectations.  The Whispers is a book that features several different couples and how they intersect (oftentimes in dark ways).  Audrain is adept at capturing and keeping your attention early on, and does not disappoint!

The Best Pillow Inserts

If you’re like me, you’re a fan of throw pillows and throw pillow covers.  However, finding the actual insert that fluffs up just the way you like, can be a challenge.  Enter these reasonable and awesome pillow inserts.  I have them in my house and they are just the right mix of fluffy and soft without being saggy or not full enough.

Labeled Elastic Sheet Bands

Maybe I’m a little slow on the uptake, but we have a lot of beds and a lot of sheets (in different sizes).  I buy all of our sheets in white, so when they all get washed and folded, sometimes it’s hard to know which is which.  This is why I like these labeled elastic sheet bands.  Even though I have started labeling the tags on my sheets, these bands make it easy to know what’s what in the linen closet.  Sometimes the simple things are the things that make me happy.

A Small Light Series

We discovered an amazing series on Hulu (maybe Disney?) recently that was so captivating. I love stories that are kind of peripheral to a more mainstream story.  That’s what A Small Light is.  We all know the story of Anne Frank.  A Small Light is the story about Miep Gies, who helped to hide the Frank family, and others who lived in the Annex with them.  It’s so well done and really shines a light on the bravery that she and others exhibited.

Garage Floor Transformation

I am midway through my garage floor makeover, and already feel compelled to share.  I’ll do a full post on it when I’m done, but if you’re looking for a fast and easy way to transform your garage floor, this is IT.  I put down tiles yesterday and covered more than one garage bay in an afternoon.  Super easy and it looks so NICE!  My son commented on it yesterday and said, “How long until they’re done?” – like I paid someone else to come in and do it.  I told him, “There is no ‘they’, there is just ‘me'”. If your garage is a point of contention (and ours always seems to be – it’s just a constant battle to keep it looking decent).  This floor gives it an immediate upgrade!  Plus, it comes in different colors, and you can even get creative with patterns if you want to take things to the next level.

This is NOT my garage, FYI, but you can see how nice the floor looks.

Here is my garage floor in progress (ignore the bare spot – that home made piece of shelving is going to be dismantled).

Here’s the before, so you can see where we started.

I can’t say enough about how easy this floor is to install.  The pieces just click together.  Amazing – wish we had done this years ago!

My +1 for the week – Any Starbucks Drive Thru

I have visited enough Starbucks drive thru’s to make this declaration – they stink.  They’re not conducive to people parking and going in (and then being able to get out).  I’ve been to one where the line for the drive thru literally backed up as far as a turn lane coming INTO the establishment.  Ridiculous.

Starbucks needs to take some lessons from Chik-Fil-A on traffic flow.

There you have it! More to come – I recently visited Homearama, and am excited to share the trends with all of you!

I wish for a pillow form made with “memory foam” (as in pliable, good support and not needing fluffing!)
