We’re Living Like Squatters, but We’re IN!

Ok, so we’re living like squatters/hoarders at the moment since our movers can’t get our stuff out of storage for until Monday (ugh). But, our PODS have been delivered, and they contain much of our day to day stuff, so I can at least tackle the kitchen for the moment. However, we’re sleeping on air mattresses, and the kids are in sleeping bags on the floor. Not ideal, but at least we’re in!

My oldest squatter, in the family room

I’m trying to look at the no-furniture-until-next-week thing as a positive, as it is always much easier to paint when you don’t have to move furniture, right? So, given that I have a lot of painting on my agenda, I’m going to try to knock out as much as I can in the time that I have. So far, I have tackled the master bedroom and I’m partially through my daughter’s room. The master bedroom was the priority though, and in looking at the before photos, you can understand why…

Not a big fan of salmon pink/orangey mauve myself. My parents were helping too – my mom helped paint by cutting in around the trim, and my dad took down the heavy drapes, which made a HUGE difference. Really let in a lot of light and uncovered the beautiful window. Of course, now we need to decide what sort of window coverings to use, but the nice thing is that we have no rear neighbors, so privacy isn’t a big concern. Light control definitely is though, since we get morning sun. But boy, was it nice this morning, looking outside the window to see the sun coming up, among the trees in the backyard. 🙂

Anyway, on to paint. I opted for a color very similar to what we had in our old master bedroom (Restoration Hardware, Silver Sage). This time, I went with Sherwin Williams and Mineral Deposit. I absolutely LOVE this color. It’s so calming and soothing – making our bedroom a relaxing retreat (once we have furniture, that is).  You can’t tell by looking at some of these pictures and the way the lighting is in the ceiling, but I painted the tray ceiling in a shade that was on the color wheel with Mineral Deposit, called “Front Porch”.  A pretty, light grey, giving the ceiling some lift.

Calm, cool and collected (unlike me right now)

Ahhhhh…
So, that’s where we’re at right now.  Movers come Monday, and I will be a much happier camper at that point.  The moving IN part is so much more fun than the moving OUT part.  Until then, we will be squatters in our own home.
Just makes things that much sweeter when you are all settled in, right?

The amazing power of paint, the room doesn't even look like it's the same room, love the color choice. Enjoy getting settled into your new beautiful home! Janell

Love the colour you painted your bedroom. One of my all-time favs is blue-gray so I'm with you on choosing that over pinky-beigy-salmon walls.

What a beautiful calming color! I love the double tray ceiling. I'm sure that was a joy to paint! I can't wait to see what else you have planned for this new home of yours!
    Have a great weekend,
